Agate - a mineral of many colors, drawings and changes and its deposits
Agate (from the Greek achates) is a mineral that is named after the Sicilian river Achates, today Dirillo. Dirillo springs on the slopes of Monte Laurok, passes through the provinces of Catania and Ragusa and flows into the Strait of Sicily in the Mediterranean. Agate is a layered variety of chalcedony, resp. consists of strips of quartz, chalcedony and opal. It is therefore quartz and its varieties. Agate is characterized by a variety of colors, from white, through yellow, orange, red, to blue, gray and black. According to the Mohs hardness scale, it has a level of 6 - 7.
Agate has always been considered a stone of protection, strength and harmony. It is said to add courage, strength, confidence and suppress fear. Already in ancient Greece, people believed that agate provided emotional, physical and intellectual balance, boosted self-confidence and self-knowledge, strengthened concentration, courage and sincerity towards themselves. In folk traditions, it is stated that agate helps to overcome negative feelings, bitterness, inner anger, helps to suppress inner tension, induces a feeling of safety and security. Agate is also said to strengthen love and give courage to seek new love, helping with emotional disappointments. Since ancient times, agate has been used in the form of talismans as a stone of protection for young children. Find out how to purify and recharge this wonderful mineral here.
Among the most famous and most beautiful agates is the lace agate (Laguna lace agate) from the Chihuahua region of Mexico. Other known agates include, for example, bahia agate, fire agate , feather agate and tree agate. Mossy agate is also included in the "family" of agates, even though it does not have the typical stripes. It occurs from almost clear to milky white with dendritic inclusions of manganese or iron, which create patterns similar to moss or lichen. Some crystals may contain red spots or may be dark green with bluish inclusions.
Agates deserve attention, whether in the form of tumbled stones, lucky trees, candlesticks, pendants, earrings or rings. They are often colored to make their structure stand out.
