This type of jewelry hides the secrets of the sea. These are very vivid natural colors - red, orange, brown, yellow and white, which form the shells of spiny oysters of the genus Spondylus, with the white part coming from the bottom of their shell. These oysters live primarily in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez, Baja California, Mexico. Jewelry made from seashells is a symbol of the ocean, representing the calm and peace of the deep waters, promoting understanding and patience.
The Navaho Indians used the shells to make traditional jewelry, especially beads, along with natural turquoise.
