The most famous light festival is the Hindu festival of Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, which lasts for 5 days, during the lunisolar month of Kartika (mid-October to mid-November). It is a celebration of the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and bliss over ignorance. Diwali celebration welcomes light into our life. Light is associated with success and hope. Diya or Dia candlesticks are traditionally used. The candlesticks are decorated by hand with distinctive ornaments. Candles are made of clarified butter (ghee) and have a cotton wick, sometimes dipped in perfume.
The use of candles has a very long tradition. Since time immemorial, candles have been burning in sacred places, lit for good luck and the fulfillment of unspoken wishes in churches around the world.
Don't forget to blow out the candle when you leave the room. Keep it out of reach of children. I light the candle while it is burning, and for some time after it has burned down, do not touch it, the metal is hot.
