Kambaba jasper , also known as Kambaba stone or green stromatolite jasper, is an extremely old stone dating back 3 billion years. The green and black swirling color pattern of this stone is responsible for many people confusing this stone with malachite or nebula - the nebula stone. Kambaba is not actually a jasper, but rather a fossil. This stone is classified as a stromatolite, which refers to a cluster of fossilized algae that formed this mineral. One of the special fossils in Kambaba jasper is actually cyanobacteria, which are believed to have helped create the first oxygen atmosphere on Earth. Other minerals in this special combination of stones are usually quartz, feldspar, cristobalite, and albite. The exact date and location of the first discovery of this stone is unknown, but it can be found in South Africa, Madagascar, and the sea that separates them.
