Kambaba jasper , which is also known as Kambaba stone or green stromatolite jasper is an extremely old stone from 3 billion years ago. The green and black swirling color pattern of this stone is responsible for the fact that many people confuse this stone with malachite or nebula - the nebula stone. Kambaba is not actually a jasper, but rather a fossil. This rock is classified as a stromatolite, which refers to the cluster of fossilized algae that formed this mineral. One of the special fossils in Kambaba jasper is actually cyanobacteria, which are believed to have helped create the first oxygen atmosphere on Earth. Other minerals in this special combination of stones are usually quartz, feldspar, cristobalite and albite. The exact date and place of the first discovery of this stone is unknown, but it can be found in South Africa, Madagascar and the sea that divides them. The origin of the stone's name is also much debated, with the leading theory suggesting that Kambaba jasper was named after Cheitharol Kambaba.
