Orthoklass was named in 1801 by the French mineralogist René Just Haüy, the name is derived from the Greek orthos = right, in connection with the right angle when splitting the mineral. In 1823, Johann Friedrich August Breithaupt changed the name to orthoclase. The mineral belongs to the feldspar group. It occurs as colorless to white, green-white, gray-yellow, light pink and red. Degree of hardness according to the Mohs scale: 6.

Location: Russia, Tanzania, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Madagascar and USA. The largest orthoclase so far was discovered in the Ural Mountains, its weight is more than 100 tons and its length is more than 1 m.
