Tara is generally perceived as a being who can help people from imminent danger, disease, and overcoming all sorts of obstacles.
The White Tara , also called the "Mother of All Buddhas", is the perfect embodiment of kind power, wisdom and purity. White Tara expresses the specific energy of purity, truth and power, which are just some of the aspects of white. It is sometimes called Tara with seven eyes, because the stern of the third eye is shown with eyes in hands and feet, thus seeing all human suffering and also encouraging the development of alertness and perception of the surrounding energy.
Just as white is considered the highest color in many mystical traditions because it contains all colors, so White Tara is considered the strongest of all Tars because it embodies all of them. White Tara is depicted everywhere in the lotus position with the soles of the feet pointing upwards (diamond lotus) . Her left hand is raised and the gesture represents protection and fearlessness, and her right hand is a gesture of compassion. White Tara often has a blue lotus flower in her left hand, depicting faith and fearlessness.
Each gesture is called "mudra," a word from Sanskrit that refers to a thousand-year-old Indian technique that can be used to influence the energy flow in the body. White Tara is the energy of health and longevity. It embodies the fruitful, maternal aspect of compassion.
Symbolically, the Dorje represents the "lightning of enlightenment," a sudden change in human consciousness that is recognized by many religions as central to mysticism and the lives of saints. Through enlightenment, we can be separated from material goods such as money, food, and even life itself. Happiness then comes not from outside, but from within ourselves. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Dorje is an inseparable ritual part of religious ceremonies.
