Turritela

Turritela is a variety of chalcedony, of the quartz group, or agate , which is a mixture of bands of quartz, chalcedony and opal. They are brown or black in color and are fossilized impressions and shell patterns of marine gastropods belonging to the Turrittelidae (turritelidae) family. They occur in the eastern Atlantic, at a depth of up to 200 m. Their shells (shells) have been found in the North Sea and their age dates back to the late Pliocene, the transition between the Tertiary and Quaternary, about 5.33 to 2.58 million years.
